Nestopia is an open source NES/Famicom emulator written in C++. It is designed to emulate the hardware as accurately as possible, without use of any emulation hacks.

Nestopia emulates the NES CPU at cycle-exact granularity, ensuring full support for software that do mid-scanline and other timing trickery.

VirtuaNES is a relatively new NES emulator from Japanese origin. Fortunately there is an English version of it though. Being newer than other NES emulators doesn't mean it's bad, on the contrary in fact. It supports full CPU and sound emulation. As with most emulators for Windows, VirtuaNES requires a recent version of DirectX. Being a NES emulator it doesn't require a very fast PC though.

Mednafen is a portable, utilizing OpenGL and SDL, argument(command-line)-driven multi-system emulator with many advanced features. The Atari Lynx, GameBoy (Color), GameBoy Advance, NES, PC Engine(TurboGrafx 16), SuperGrafx, Neo Geo Pocket (Color), PC-FX, and WonderSwan (Color) are emulated.

Mednafen has the ability to remap hotkey functions and virtual system inputs to a keyboard, a joystick, or both simultaneously. Save states are supported, as is real-time game rewinding. Screen snapshots may be taken at the press of a button, and are saved in the popular PNG file format.
